In England, an NHS GP (General Practitioner) is the main entry point for primary care. For people who have paid the IHS (Immigration Health Surcharge) or are eligible for NHS services, NHS GP consultations are generally free. However, note that not everything in the NHS is free, such as dentistry, eye care and some services which may involve separate charges. 1. 為什麼有人會考慮私家 GP？1. Why do some people consider a private GP?
有些人考慮私家 GP，不一定是因為不使用 NHS，而是想多一個選項。例如：想較快見到醫生、想安排特定時間、想使用 video consultation（視像診症）、想在短時間內取得一次普通科意見、想在不影響 NHS GP 登記的情況下多問一次意見。
Some people consider a private GP not necessarily because they do not use the NHS, but because they want an additional option. For example: wanting to see a doctor sooner, wanting a specific time, wanting to use a video consultation, wanting to get a general medical opinion within a short time, or wanting one extra opinion without affecting NHS GP registration.

3. 私家 GP 有什麼限制？3. What are the limitations of a private GP?
私家 GP 可以提供較有彈性的普通科服務，但它不是「所有問題的快速通道」。使用前應理解以下限制。
A private GP can provide more flexible general medical services, but it is not a “fast track for every problem”. Before using one, you should understand the following limitations.
3.1 需要自費3.1 You need to pay yourself
Private GP 是付費服務。不同 provider、不同時間長度、視像或面診、是否包括信件或處方，收費都可能不同。
Private GP is a paid service. Fees may vary depending on the provider, appointment length, video or face-to-face consultation, and whether letters or prescriptions are included.
3.2 私家處方通常要自費3.2 Private prescriptions usually need to be paid for yourself
Private GP 如開出處方，通常是私家處方。藥物費用未必跟 NHS 處方費相同，實際費用視乎藥物和藥房安排。使用前應問清楚：診症費是否包括處方、藥費是否另計、處方可在哪裡取藥、是否有後續跟進費用。
If a Private GP issues a prescription, it is usually a private prescription. Medicine costs may not be the same as NHS prescription charges, and the actual cost depends on the medicine and pharmacy arrangements. Before using the service, ask clearly: whether the consultation fee includes prescriptions, whether medicine costs are charged separately, where the prescription can be collected, and whether there are follow-up fees.
3.3 不能直接當作 NHS 專科捷徑3.3 It cannot be treated as a shortcut to NHS specialists
研究報告指出，私家 GP 通常不能直接把你轉介進入 NHS 二線專科服務。若你需要 NHS 專科、長期護理或手術輪候，很多情況仍需透過 NHS GP 或相關 NHS 流程處理。換句話說，私家 GP 可以是額外選項，但不應理解為「付費就可以插隊入 NHS 專科」。
The research report states that a private GP usually cannot directly refer you into NHS secondary specialist services. If you need NHS specialist care, long-term care or a surgical waiting list, in many cases you still need to go through an NHS GP or the relevant NHS process. In other words, a private GP can be an additional option, but should not be understood as “paying to jump the queue into NHS specialist care”.

This type of service usually has a physical clinic and can arrange face-to-face appointments. Some large healthcare organisations or private hospital networks provide general practice or primary care services. It may be suitable for people who want to see a doctor face to face, arrange a more fixed time, get a private general medical opinion, or need a private medical letter or private prescription.
4.2 視像 GP / App 型服務4.2 Video GP / App-based service
這類服務以 video consultation（視像診症）或 App 預約為主。部分 provider 可能提供電子處方、醫療信件或後續跟進。可能適合：想較快約到一次普通科意見、不方便親身去診所、只想先作一般查詢、想在工作或照顧家庭之間安排較彈性的時間。
This type of service is mainly based on video consultation or App booking. Some providers may offer electronic prescriptions, medical letters or follow-up. It may be suitable for people who want to get a general medical opinion sooner, cannot conveniently go to a clinic in person, only want a general enquiry first, or want to arrange a more flexible time around work or family care.

- 如要藥物，藥費是否另計？If medicine is needed, is the medicine cost separate?
- 是否提供面診、電話或視像診症？Do you provide face-to-face, phone or video consultation?
- 醫生是否可以查看或接收我的 NHS 病歷？Can the doctor view or receive my NHS medical records?
- 診症後會否有書面紀錄？Will there be a written record after the consultation?
- 如果需要專科，會轉介去私家專科還是建議回 NHS GP？If a specialist is needed, will you refer me to a private specialist or advise me to return to my NHS GP?
- 我的資料會怎樣保存和使用？How will my information be stored and used?
這些問題不是要你懷疑對方，而是保護自己，避免以為「已付費」就等於所有後續服務都包括在內。
These questions are not about distrusting the provider. They are to protect yourself and avoid assuming that “because I have paid”, all follow-up services are included.

英醫路未來計劃與持牌私家 GP 合作，提供更清楚的轉介或查詢選項。這仍屬規劃中。
Health Road England plans to work with licensed private GPs in future to provide clearer referral or enquiry options. This is still in planning.
